Ray’s Kitchen

This kitchen remodel hit an emotional chord with the client who was remodeling his late mother’s house. As mother and son had been avid travelers with many trips to Italy, there were décor influences in the house from their adventures. In the foyer floor was a handcrafted marble mosaic medallion which she had designed inspired by their Italian trips. We drew inspiration from that design feature in material choice and color palette. The client wanted a bolder choice of colors, so the lower cabinets are the deep rich blue of Behr’s English Channel, while the uppers reflect the crema Valencia marble of the medallion. Behr’s Beach House fit the bill perfectly as a creamy off-white. The countertops are Italian Dolomite marble with hints of pink drawing from pink Valencia also in the medallion. Streaks of light gray pair beautifully with the blue lower and off-white uppers.

The functionality of the kitchen received a major upgrade with tons of easy access storage. The upper quarter of the doors were inset with glass and illuminated with integrated lighting offering a display space for treasured objects curated during travels. Lighting was updated with a blown glass chandelier, recessed lighting, and under cabinet lighting all smart-controlled and dimmable capable of setting any mood for the kitchen.

The original pantry was a dark cramped closet hidden behind a dated bi-fold louvered door. We removed the contractor issue white wire shelves, expanded and reframed the opening allowing for more access to the recesses of the closet. The interior was fitted out as a built-in cabinet with custom-matching cabinet doors and hardware. Six large multi-sized pull-out drawers with adjustable open shelving above send the functionality over the top and make the pantry a dream to organize.
